The Sixth Form Bolton is celebrating the remarkable success of students who have achieved exceptional GCSE English and Maths results.

Students have shown incredible resilience by studying GCSEs alongside their main study programmes, securing life-changing qualifications that will support their future career progression.

This year’s November resit results, a 63% pass rate in English and a 33% pass rate in Maths, represent a tremendous achievement and are significantly above the national benchmark for colleges and sixth forms across the country. November GCSE resits are available for students who have not yet achieved a grade 4 or above.

Reagan Whenlock, a former Mount St Joseph’s School student, increased her GCSE Maths grade from a 2 to a 4. Reagan said:

“I felt so happy to receive my results. This means I can now look for apprenticeships without the worry of re-sitting. I’d like to thank my Maths teacher, Mrs Leigh, and Janine Adams from Learning Services for supporting me throughout my learning.”

Niamh Seymour, a former Fred Longworth High School student who studies A Level Sociology, Level 3 Vocational Childhood Development and Level 3 Applied Psychology, achieved a grade 3 in her English Language GCSE at school and has now increased this to a grade 7. Niamh said:

“I was over the moon to receive my result. It was the grade I was predicted and knew I was capable of achieving, so it was a relief to finally get my 7. I’d like to thank Mr Edge for believing in me.”

Zarafsha Khan, a former Bolton Muslim Girls’ School student who studies Triple Level 3 Health & Social Care at The Sixth Form, increased her GCSE English Language grade from a 3 to a 5. She said:

“Achieving a 5 in English means a lot to me because it opens the door to the university course I’m aiming for and shows how much progress I’ve made. I’ve had great support from my English teachers, Mr Edge and Mr Slamin, and the whole Sixth Form team, who encouraged me and helped me believe I could reach this grade.”

Everyone at The Sixth Form Bolton is incredibly proud of the students and the hard work they put in, with Paul Edge, Head of English and MFL, commenting:

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding success of our November resit cohort. Congratulations to every student involved. An impressive 50 students who joined Sixth Form Bolton without a grade 4 in English Language went on to achieve this benchmark or higher. Even more inspiring, 36 percent of these successful students secured a grade 5 or above. This remarkable achievement reflects the resilience, determination and hard work of our students, alongside the expert planning, commitment and support provided by our teaching staff. It truly was a team effort. Congratulations to all our students and staff on these fantastic results. Together, we are making a meaningful and positive difference in the lives of young people, and we could not be prouder.”
