The Sixth Form Bolton students have been busy raising money for local charity Urban Outreach as part of their Business Course.
Their course includes a unit called Managing an Event, and it was as part of this that the students decided to raise money for something close to the hearts of many.
The students were split into small groups, and each of them had to decide on an event they wanted to run. Between them they organised a range of engaging activities including sweet stalls, table tennis tournaments, a doughnut shop and even an escape room.
Pragna Varsani, 17, was part of the group that organised a croissant stall and a ping pong challenge. The former St James’s CE High School pupil said:
“We learned a lot about communicating with each other, and how to engage with customers. It was also nice to help with raising money for a charity.”
To date, the budding entrepreneurs have raised a total of £450. Events will continue throughout the year to raise essential funds for the much-needed charity.
Urban Outreach is a Christian charity providing food for households in crisis; and person-centred support for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable adults and young people in Bolton.
The Business course at The Sixth Form gives learners real-life experiences and scenarios to prepare them for their future career. During this unit the learners completed Gantt charts as well as a feasibility study relating to Legal, Operational, Schedule, Economic and Technical elements. They also created the marketing and advertising for the TVs around College in addition to the risk assessment forms and expenditure sheets.
Michael Kniveton, Business Teacher at The Sixth Form said:
“We are incredibly proud of all of our business students. They demonstrated great tenacity, team work and problem-solving skills throughout the process.”
