Congratulations to all of the A Level students from The Sixth Form Bolton who recently completed a week long work experience placement. Work Experience is an incredibly beneficial experience which gives students a real insight into the world of work.
Over 250 students established placements in a wide range of companies, including Beaumont Hospital, S&S Pharmacy, The Smile Clinic, Joe Egan Solicitors, A Patel & Co Accountants and AECOM.
A Level student, Kateryna Naidonova, impressed on placement at Manchester City Council’s m::four Communication and Language Support Service.
The sixteen-year-old student has a talent for languages and speaks five languages in total. During her placement, Kateryna was tasked with translating a number of documents from Ukrainian and Russian into English and vice-versa. This has included a leaflet promoting summer events at Wythenshawe Park, an information sheet on signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression, and a council letter addressed to a tenant who was in breach of their tenancy contract.
Kateryna really enjoying her work experience and it helped confirm that after sixth form she would like to pursue a degree in modern languages and further training to become a professional translator or interpreter. When asked about her experiences, Kateryna said, “The placement has helped me realise what I want to do in the future and I have been given lots of useful advice from people in the career I am interested in. I have gained essential skills in the proficiency of interpreting as well as team work, communication and time management.”

Peel L&P’s homebuilder, Northstone, welcomed four B6 students for an enriching week.
A Level students Saqib Patel, Karima Kedir, Wareh Sallah, and Hadiyah Kotwal benefited from shadowing various departments such as architecture, engineering, sales and marketing, and quantity surveying.
One of the days involved a day on site with the sales team, getting to see the sustainable features in action such as Wonder Wall. The students explored the site with the assistant site manager to see houses in varying stages of construction.
Becky Hardman, Sustainability Co-Ordinator at Northstone, said, “This group of students have got so much out of this placement because they have been passionate and interested from day one. All the different staff who have worked with them have been impressed with the student’s genuine interest and keenness to ask questions. As a company, we feel like we have got something out hosting this placement, it has been a fantastic experience for all involved.”
